Hearing on SCR 1325 - WOMEN'S PEACE INITIATIVE

First Unitarian Church, 1011 SW 13th ,Portland, OR 97201

ACTION ALERT: Please join WILPF and other Portland Women as they provide critical input and consult with: Susan Braden, Senior Policy Advisor to Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues (the State Department) regarding the 1st US National Action Plan supporting Women, Peace and Security. Bring a ‘human security’ approach (i.e. food, water, free from violence, access to health care, etc.) rather than the presence of armed conflict as a means for framing the development of this critical position paper.

It is important that Portland WILPF members and friends speak out on this women's peace initiative. Portland is one of only 5 sites which have this opportunity. It came about because WILPF demanded that the State Department must consult with grassroots women in the process of developing a National Action Plan. (It took 10 years and Hillary Clinton and pressure from "peace women" to even accept the responsibility to develop a NAP.)
